Orlando City SC homegrown forward Justin Ellis was selected to Major League Soccer’s 2026 22 Under 22 list on Oct. 20. The 19-year-old Wellington, Fla., native has recorded 16 goal contributions in 27 appearances across all competitions. Ellis has scored three goals and added 13 assists, including four game-winning assists that lead Orlando City in Major League Soccer play this season.
Strong first-team season
Ellis signed a first-team contract with Orlando City SC in February 2026. He has started 21 of his 27 appearances across all competitions while establishing himself as a key young player for the club. His production includes 16 total goal contributions and a team-leading four game-winning assists in league play.
The 2026 22 Under 22 list was limited to players who were 21 or younger before Decision Day on Nov. 7, 2026. Eligible players also had to be born after Nov. 8, 2004. A voting panel that included Major League Soccer coaches, general managers, sporting directors, MLS Season Pass talent and select media members made the selections.
Immediate impact with the U.S. Men’s National Team
Ellis received his first call-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team during the most recent international window. He scored four minutes into his international debut during the United States’ 4-1 victory over Peru at Inter.co Stadium on Sept. 26, 2026. The goal was identified as the fastest scored by a U.S. Men’s National Team debutant in the modern era.
Ellis added another decisive performance in the United States’ 1-0 victory over Canada on Oct. 6, 2026. He scored the game-winning goal in that match. The two performances marked a fast start to his international career after his first call-up.
Progress through Orlando City’s development pathway
Before signing his Homegrown contract ahead of the 2026 season, Ellis recorded eight goals and five assists in 41 appearances for Orlando City B across all competitions. He progressed through the Orlando City Academy, Orlando City B and Orlando City SC first team. That path has connected his academy development with his current contributions at the Major League Soccer level.
Ellis was named the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro Pathway Player of the Year. During his time with the Orlando City Academy, he was named MLS NEXT MVP presented by Adidas. He also won the Golden Boot as Orlando City captured its first Generation adidas Cup title in 2025.
Orlando City’s next home match
Orlando City SC will host New York City FC on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at Inter.co Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be Orlando City’s penultimate home game of the regular season.
FSB Take
Ellis’ selection to the 2026 22 Under 22 list recognizes a season that includes significant club and international contributions. His 16 goal contributions, four game-winning assists in Major League Soccer play and rapid start with the U.S. Men’s National Team provide the clearest evidence of his impact. His progression from the Orlando City Academy to Orlando City B and the first team gives the honor added importance for Orlando City SC.
