The Florida Panthers will open a four-game road trip Wednesday night against the Ottawa Senators, with Brady Tkachuk scheduled to return to the city where he spent eight seasons. Florida enters the game with a 5-2-2 record and three consecutive victories. Ottawa owns a 6-3-0 record heading into the matchup.

The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. Florida is coming off an 8-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Saturday. The Panthers will continue the trip Thursday at the Pittsburgh Penguins and Sunday at the Chicago Blackhawks.

Brady Tkachuk prepares for Ottawa return

Tkachuk recorded 463 points with the Ottawa Senators, including 213 goals and 250 assists, during his eight seasons with the organization. He also registered 1,921 hits in Ottawa. His return comes during a strong opening stretch with the Florida Panthers.

Tkachuk said the significance of the game will become clearer once the Panthers arrive in Ottawa. “Once we get there, it’s going to hit a little bit more,” Brady said after practice Monday. “Right now, it still feels like that game you circle on the calendar for a lot of people. Once we land in Ottawa and see some of the guys, that’ll be like ‘All right, it’s here.’ It’s going to be nervous. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a weird-but-cool experience. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”

The first-year Florida Panthers player has recorded 10 points through nine games this season, including six goals and four assists. Tkachuk is tied for Florida’s team lead in goals and tied for second in points. He ranks second on the team with 30 hits, leads the Panthers with 32 shots and was named the NHL First Star of the Week.

Florida Panthers face early Atlantic Division test

Wednesday’s matchup is an important Atlantic Division game for two teams that have opened the season with winning records. Florida head coach Paul Maurice said the division will leave little room for extended slumps. The Panthers will face Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Chicago during the first three listed games of the road trip.

“You’re not going to be allowed a strong lull,” Maurice said of the strength of the Atlantic Division. “Everybody’s going to have one at least, and you have to survive that. You can’t be that far away from anybody because you can catch any one team, but you’re not catching four, and there isn’t a weak team in the group.” His comments came as Florida prepared for a stretch against three opponents with established early-season records. The Panthers will play at Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. ET Thursday and at Chicago at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.

FSB Take

Brady Tkachuk’s return gives the Florida Panthers’ opening road-trip game a clear personal storyline. Florida also enters Ottawa with three straight wins and a 5-2-2 record, while the Senators are 6-3-0. The Panthers will need to carry that early-season form into a schedule that continues at Pittsburgh and Chicago.
