Eckerd College’s coed Open Sailing team tied for first among 15 teams at the Charleston Fall Interconference in Charleston, South Carolina, and won the B Division at Crab Bank. Charleston won the head-to-head tiebreaker over Eckerd for the overall title. Eckerd’s A Division finished tied for third with 45 points, while the B Division won with 31 points.
Jordan Vieira and Angelina Manchuk opened the regatta for Eckerd in the A Division in 420s. PJ Rodrigues and Peyton Seidle represented Eckerd in the B Division as racing took place in an ebbing current. Winds measured 5-6 knots, with opening-day gusts reaching eight knots.
Eckerd College opened in fourth place
Four races were completed on the first day before storms ended racing. Avery Guck replaced Manchuk as Vieira’s crew for the fourth and final race of the day. Eckerd finished the opening day in fourth place overall with 45 points, including 27 points from the A Division and 18 points from the B Division.
Both divisions won second-day openers
Eckerd started the second day with victories in both divisions. Vieira and Guck won the first A Division race, while Rodrigues and Seidle won the first B Division race.
Four additional races were completed in winds of 5-6 knots, with gusts reaching as high as 12 knots. Eckerd climbed into contention for the overall title before changing conditions interrupted the final portion of the regatta. The wind died during an A Division race, and Race 9A was ultimately voided.
A Division sailors were sent back to shore while officials attempted to complete another B Division race. After approximately 20 minutes, the B Division was also sent in because of unfavorable conditions. Eckerd ultimately tied Charleston for first overall but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Next up for Eckerd College Open Sailing
Eckerd College will return at the ACC Qualifier hosted by St. Mary’s College on October 10-11, 2026. The sailing team enters the event after winning the B Division and tying for the top overall position at Charleston. Its A Division also finished tied for third in the interconference regatta.
FSB Take
Eckerd College’s second-day start changed the shape of the regatta. Wins by both divisions helped the team recover from a fourth-place opening day and reach a tie for first overall. The B Division title and the A Division’s tied-for-third finish provided the foundation for Eckerd’s result.
