Florida Atlantic women’s soccer earned three American Conference weekly awards for the second consecutive week, with Hailey Santiago and Lola Hathorne recognized after a 3-0 home victory over Jacksonville and a 3-3 draw with Florida Gulf Coast.

Santiago was named American Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. Hathorne earned American Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and was also selected as the conference’s Midfielder of the Week.

“We are excited for Hailey and Lola to receive back-to-back weeks of American Conference recognition,” said Head Coach Patrick Baker. “Both have had two very productive weeks. With the team success comes individual recognition, and this is a by-product of how the team has been performing. These two are creating a special bond on the field and it’s showing early this season.”

Hailey Santiago sets Florida Atlantic program record

Santiago recorded her second hat trick in a week against Jacksonville, setting a Florida Atlantic program record for the shortest time between hat tricks. All three goals came in the second half and were the only scores in the 3-0 victory.

Santiago added an assist in the draw against Florida Gulf Coast and leads the conference with seven goals, two game-winning goals and 16 points. She said the weekly award reflected the work of the entire team.

“It’s an honor to be named Offensive Player of the Week, but I know this award reflects the work our whole team has put in,” said Santiago. “I’m proud of my performance, and I’m excited to keep building on it and helping us compete!”

Lola Hathorne adds three goals and three assists

Hathorne recorded her team-high third assist against Jacksonville, with the assist coming on the game-winning goal. She then scored two goals against Florida Gulf Coast on her only two shots of the match.

The freshman midfielder has three goals and three assists in her first seven collegiate matches. Hathorne credited her teammates for their support after receiving the conference honors.

“I am extremely grateful for this recognition,” said Hathorne. “I thank God for the many ways He has guided me and provided for me throughout this new season. Although I receive this award, none of it is possible without my team. The hard work and support that everyone has shown on and off the field has been phenomenal. This award merely shows what we’re capable of and I’m excited to see how we continue to grow throughout this season.”

Florida Atlantic women’s soccer heads back on the road

Florida Atlantic women’s soccer will continue its three-match road trip Thursday, Sept. 10, against North Dakota State in Fargo. The team will then travel to Grand Forks for a Sept. 13 match against North Dakota.

The two matches are Florida Atlantic’s scheduled contests for the week. The awards were announced by the American Conference on Monday, Sept. 7.
