Flagler College Saints men’s soccer swept the Peach Belt Conference weekly awards after a 2-0 road week. Finn Weigelt was named Player of the Week, Filip Hornburg earned Defensive Player of the Week honors and Xander LaBelle received Goalkeeper of the Week recognition.
The Saints defeated Middle Georgia 2-1 and Clayton State 4-0 during the week. Flagler College Saints men’s soccer has won three consecutive matches and outscored its opponents 7-1 during that stretch.
The Saints are 6-0-1 in Peach Belt Conference play with five league matches remaining. The awards were announced Monday in Augusta, Georgia.
Finn Weigelt leads the weekly awards
Weigelt, a senior forward from Berlin, Germany, scored three goals during the week. He scored twice in the final nine minutes against Middle Georgia, producing the third brace of his career and his first since 2024.
Weigelt scored again in the 14th minute against Clayton State. He leads the Saints in scoring, ranks third in the league in goals and ranks first in game-winning goals.
“Finn has been clinical in front of goal for us this season,” said Flagler men’s soccer head coach Thomas Coombes. “He has stepped up as a senior to lead the front line and has scored some important goals in big moments for us. He is a big player for us both physically and in terms of his importance to the team.”
Filip Hornburg earns defensive honor
Hornburg, a sophomore defender from Oslo, Norway, played all 90 minutes against Middle Georgia. He scored on a penalty kick against Clayton State, his third goal of the season, and helped the Saints record their third clean sheet of the season.
Hornburg was named the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a D2CCA First Team All-American after his freshman season. His latest honor recognizes his work during a week in which Flagler College Saints men’s soccer allowed one goal across two road matches.
“Filip has continued to show his class this season. He is finding form for us at the right time and is demonstrating why he is one of the best Division 2 defenders in the country!” Coombes said.
Xander LaBelle makes an impact in goal
LaBelle, a junior goalkeeper from Sarasota, started both matches and conceded one goal. He made a season-high nine saves against Clayton State and recorded his second shutout of the season.
LaBelle also became the first Flagler College Saints goalkeeper since 2013 to record an assist. He set up Henry Okenla’s goal in the 71st minute against Clayton State.
“Xander has done a brilliant job stepping up for us this season, and this award demonstrates that. He has shown his qualities as a keeper and continues to impress further with every appearance!” Coombes said.
