Seminole State College tied for second at the Saint Leo Invitational, finishing alongside Wingate University and Lee University in a 13-team NCAA Division II field. No. 2 Barry University won the team title by 16 strokes. The tournament was hosted at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
Strong winds made scoring difficult throughout the tournament. The conditions challenged the field on Lake Jovita’s tricky holes, but Seminole State College remained among the top teams. The result placed the Seminole State College women’s golf team in a three-way tie for second.
Lili-Rose Hunt leads Seminole State College
Freshman Lili-Rose Hunt led the Seminole State College women’s golf team with a fourth-place individual finish. The Saint Leo Invitational was Hunt’s third collegiate tournament. She opened with rounds of 71, one under par, and 70, two under par, before closing with a 76.
Darcie West and Rio Nakama also finished inside the top 20. Their finishes gave Seminole State College two additional golfers among the tournament’s top 20. The performances helped the team secure its tie for second in the Division II field.
Head coach Christa Teno said the course was in good condition despite recent rain in Central Florida. She also pointed to the wind and the team’s individual performances as key parts of the result. Teno’s comments followed a tournament in which Hunt finished fourth and West and Nakama placed inside the top 20.
“Lake Jovita was in wonderful shape considering all the rain we’ve gotten in Central Florida recently, but the wind was definitely up and made scoring quite difficult on a lot of tricky holes,” Teno said. “Lili-Rose played incredible golf in only her third college tournament to earn a top-four finish, and having Darcie and Rio inside the top 20 helped us secure a great result in a tough Division II field.”
