Echedry Vargas hit two home runs as the Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the St. Lucie Mets 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Vargas hit his 20th and 21st home runs of the season, helping Jupiter win five of six games in the series.

Vargas became the first Jupiter Hammerheads player to hit at least 20 home runs in a season since Marcell Ozuna hit 24 in 2012. He also became the fifth Hammerhead all-time to reach 20 home runs and finished the series with five.

St. Lucie took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kuhio Aloy hit a solo home run. Jupiter starting pitcher Jonas Uzcategui allowed one run on three hits and one walk in four innings while striking out a career-high seven batters.

Jupiter answered in the fourth inning. PJ Morlando led off with a single, and Vargas followed with his 20th home run of the season to give the Hammerheads a 2-1 lead.

Aloy hit his second solo home run of the game in the fifth inning to tie the score at 2-2. Vargas responded with his 21st homer in the sixth, putting Jupiter back in front 3-2 and recording his second two-home-run game of the series.

Jupiter adds four runs late

The Hammerheads extended their lead in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Yoffry Solano hit a ground ball that resulted in a throwing error and allowed two runs to score, then Jeremy Almonte followed with an RBI double to make it 6-2.

Eric Guevara added an RBI single in the eighth inning for his first professional RBI. Almonte also extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest active hitting streak for Jupiter.

St. Lucie scored once in the ninth inning after Ian Medina walked four hitters and was removed from the game. Davidxon Lara recorded the final out with the bases loaded and two outs to secure his second save.

Will Watson pitched three scoreless innings for St. Lucie in a rehab appearance. Jupiter improved to 12-6 against St. Lucie in the regular season, while the Hammerheads were listed at 21-26 in the second half and 58-55 overall after the victory.

Vargas has hit 13 home runs in his last 24 games and 15 home runs since July 10 before the All-Star break. Jupiter will begin a six-game series against the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, before hosting the Tampa Tarpons from Aug. 25-30 for its final regular-season homestand. The Hammerheads will play another regular-season series against St. Lucie from Sept. 1-6.
