Matisse Hébert made eight saves, tying his career high, as the UCF men’s soccer team defeated the VCU Rams 2-0 on Sept. 11 at the VCU Soccer Complex in Richmond, Virginia. Drew Hansen and Hugo Vogel scored in the first half for UCF, which earned its fourth win of the season and its first road victory. The match opened UCF’s three-match road trip.
Hansen gave UCF the lead in the 34th minute after receiving a pass from Alex Partera, who was set up by Kenn Muendo. The goal was Hansen’s fourth in his last two matches, his 10th career goal and his second consecutive game-winning goal. It also established a career best with his fourth goal of the season.
Vogel added UCF’s second goal moments later for his first career Division I goal. Izán Martínez provided the pass after receiving the ball from Jem Hewlett. Martínez returned to the pitch this season after missing the 2025 season because of an injury.
Hébert helps UCF secure another clean sheet
VCU produced 27 total shots, including 25 in the second half, while all eight of Hébert’s saves came after halftime. The performance was Hébert’s second career eight-save game and helped UCF record its fifth clean sheet in its first six matches. UCF became the first team in program history to record at least five shutouts through the first six games of a season.
Hébert also became the first goalkeeper in Division I men’s soccer this season to record more than five clean sheets. UCF improved to 4-1-1 through six matches. The Knights will next face the James Madison Dukes in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with the match set for 7 p.m. Friday at Sentara Park and scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
The match will open UCF’s Sun Belt Conference schedule.
