Jeshua Lopez received the Academic Excellence Award as South Florida State College graduated 16 Practical Nursing students during a traditional pinning ceremony July 30. The ceremony took place at the Alan Jay Wildstein Center for the Performing Arts on the college’s Highlands Campus in Avon Park. Mackenzie Pruitt received the Clinical Excellence Award.
The Thakkar Family Foundation supported both excellence awards. The Practical Nursing graduates were Jaleigh Brantner, Zareana Fogel-Thomas, Pamela Garcia-Cisneros, Cathryn Kersey, Hailey Lee, Jannan Lee, Tracy Likens, Jeshua Lopez, Alysia Mayer, Rosa Montalvo, Aleine Petit-Homme, Mackenzie Pruitt, Samantha Rivera, Alexia Segura, Heather Steele and Biatriz Ynoa.
Graduates honor Good Shepherd Hospice
The graduates presented the Golden D.U.C.K. award to Good Shepherd Hospice. The D.U.C.K. acronym represents Developing, Understanding, Compassion and Knowledge, the foundational elements of the mentoring arrangement recognized by the award. Good Shepherd Hospice was honored for its “way of providing comfort, preserving dignity, and being present for patients and their families during life’s most meaningful moments,” which left a lasting impression on the graduates.
South Florida State College nursing programs
South Florida State College’s 11-month Career Certificate Practical Nursing program prepares graduates to become licensed practical nurses by passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses, or NCLEX-PN. The college also offers an Associate in Science degree in Nursing program through a two-year Generic-RN format and a one-year Transition-LPN to RN format. In addition, South Florida State College offers a fully online Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
