Keiser University Athletics named men’s soccer defender Timo Boomkens and women’s soccer defender Avril Amil Ruiz its Week 4 Athletes of the Week on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026. The honors recognized defensive contributions from Boomkens and a seven-point offensive week from Ruiz.
Boomkens, a fourth-year defender from Valkenswaard, Netherlands, started both matches during the evaluation period. He helped Keiser men’s soccer defeat Florida Memorial 4-1 and Florida College 7-0 as the Seahawks outscored their opponents 11-1.
With Boomkens anchoring the back line, Keiser allowed one goal across the two-match stretch. Opponents recorded 24 combined shots in the two matches.
Avril Amil Ruiz posts seven-point week
Ruiz, a third-year defender from Valencia, Spain, helped the No. 1-ranked Keiser women’s soccer team post a 1-0-1 record during the week. Keiser tied St. Thomas 1-1 before defeating No. 13 Southeastern 7-1.
Ruiz recorded the first hat trick of her collegiate career against Southeastern, scoring three goals, including the eventual game-winner. The victory was Keiser’s most lopsided win in the series since 2013 and ended a two-game losing streak against Southeastern.
Ruiz also recorded the first assist of her Keiser career in the tie with St. Thomas. She finished the week with three goals, one assist and seven points while going 4-for-4 on shots on goal.
Ruiz leads the Seahawks with five goals and 11 points this season. Boomkens and Ruiz will be eligible for the Keiser Athlete of the Month award for September in October.
