Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp outfielder Matthew Etzel was named the International League Player of the Week for August 25-30, 2026, Minor League Baseball announced Aug. 31. He became the first Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp position player to earn a weekly honor in 2026. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp compete in the International League and are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
Etzel went 7-for-18 (.389) in five games against Nashville. He totaled two doubles, four home runs, 10 RBIs, three walks, six runs scored and three stolen bases. His 10 RBIs led all International League players for the week, while his four home runs tied for second.
Etzel also ranked second in the International League for the week in slugging percentage at 1.167 and OPS at 1.643. For the season, he was batting .250/.349/.438/.787 with 17 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 55 RBIs, 57 walks, 64 runs scored and 21 stolen bases in 107 games. He ranked second on Jacksonville in doubles and stolen bases and third in home runs and RBIs.
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp left-handed pitchers Braxton Garrett and Robby Snelling and right-handed pitchers Brandon White and Jace Beck previously won International League Pitcher of the Week honors in 2026. Garrett earned the honor for April 6-12, Snelling for April 27-May 3, White for June 15-21 and Beck for August 4-9. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp play their home games at VyStar Ballpark.
