The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell 13-5 to the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night at VyStar Ballpark in front of 8,676 fans. Maximo Acosta and Matthew Etzel hit two-run home runs for Jacksonville, but Nashville recorded 13 hits in the International League matchup.
Nashville opened the scoring with five runs in the third inning. Jacob Hurtubise led off with a walk against Jacksonville reliever Karson Milbrandt, stole second and scored on Bo Naylor’s two-run home run. After Ethan Murray walked and Blake Burke was hit by a pitch, Akil Baddoo hit a three-run home run to give the Sounds a 5-0 lead.
Jacksonville answered in the bottom of the third. Logan Driscoll doubled to begin the inning, and Jared Serna followed with an RBI single. Acosta then hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot that brought the Jumbo Shrimp within 5-3.
Nashville Adds Five Runs in Ninth
The Sounds extended their lead in the fourth inning. Hurtubise walked and scored when Eduardo Garcia hit a two-run home run, giving Nashville a 7-3 advantage.
Nashville added another run in the eighth. Hurtubise singled, Garcia was hit by a pitch and Brandon Lockridge walked to load the bases before Naylor drew a walk that scored Hurtubise.
The Sounds scored five more runs in the ninth inning. Baddoo singled and scored on Jeferson Quero’s two-run home run, while Garcia later scored on Naylor’s double. Ethan Murray followed with a two-run double to bring Nashville’s total to 13.
Jacksonville scored twice in the bottom of the ninth. Kemp Alderman singled before Etzel hit his 16th home run of the season, a two-run shot off Tyson Hardin.
Amos Willingham provided two innings of scoreless relief for Jacksonville and recorded three strikeouts. Milbrandt was charged with the loss after entering the game with an 0-7 record, while Hardin earned the win with a 4-4 record entering the contest.
The Jumbo Shrimp entered the game with a 65-64 overall record and a 23-32 mark in the second half. Nashville entered at 71-59 overall and 28-27 in the second half.
Jacksonville Scheduled to Host Series Finale
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp were scheduled to seek a series split against the Nashville Sounds in the series finale Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Coverage was scheduled to begin at 1:50 p.m. on Bally Live, MLB.tv, MiLB.tv, ESPN 690 and espn690.com.
The game was scheduled as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s final Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday of the season. The event was scheduled to include a pregame catch during the first 20 minutes after the 1 p.m. gates opening, along with complimentary face painting and balloon animals. Postgame Kids Round the Bases was scheduled to be presented by Goodwill Industries of North Florida.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and compete in the International League. Jacksonville won the 2025 International League and Triple-A National Championships.
