The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp scored four runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Memphis Redbirds 5-4 Wednesday at AutoZone Park in Memphis.
Jacksonville trailed 4-1 when Garret Forrester doubled with one out in the sixth. Maximo Acosta followed with an RBI single, and Cam Cannarella added a single after Memphis brought in Brycen Mautz. Brayden Taylor then walked to load the bases before an error allowed two runs to score and tie the game.
Mautz walked Kemp Alderman to reload the bases, and Matthew Etzel drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run. Forrester also matched a career high with three walks. Mautz suffered the loss and fell to 1-6.
Jacksonville bullpen closes out win
Matt Pushard earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings and striking out three. Wikelman Gonzalez and Zach Brzykcy each pitched a scoreless inning, and Stephen Jones followed with a scoreless frame to earn his fifth save.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp scored first in the second inning. Johnny Olmstead walked, Brendan Jones singled and Forrester walked to load the bases before Acosta hit a sacrifice fly.
Memphis tied the game in the third inning after Brody Moore reached on an error and scored on a double steal. Noah Mendlinger walked during the inning. Leo Bernal singled to open the fourth, Nolan Gormal was hit by a pitch and Thomas Saggese followed with a three-run home run to give the Redbirds a 4-1 lead.
The victory was Jacksonville’s second consecutive one-run win. The Jumbo Shrimp entered the game with a 60-59 overall record and a 19-27 International League record.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and compete in the International League. Jacksonville won the 2025 International League and Triple-A National Championships.
