The Jacksonville Jaguars improved to 2-1 with a 35-6 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday at EverBank Stadium, keeping Jacksonville atop the AFC South. Speaking Monday, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said the team must make the preparation behind that performance its standard each week. The victory followed the Jaguars’ first loss of the 2026 regular season.

Coen said the contrast between Jacksonville’s preparation before the victory and its preparation before the Week 1 loss to the Cleveland Browns provided a clear example of the team’s expectations. He emphasized maintaining and elevating those standards rather than treating the win as an isolated result.

“That is the challenge in the National Football League that exists,” Coen said.

Coen points to preparation

Coen connected the Jaguars’ work during the week to their performance against the New England Patriots. He said the team needs to repeat that approach and continue raising its preparation standards as the season progresses.

“Pretty clear message in terms of, ‘All right, guys, how we practiced going into Denver and how we played versus how we practiced going into Cleveland [in Week 1] and how we played,'” Coen said. “Like it is right there. It is so clear and obvious.”

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis said the practice process must remain consistent regardless of the previous result. He described the desired approach as relentless, intense and similar to game conditions.

“Like we have talked about before, it is about the process,” Lewis said. “Every time we go out on the field, our process needs to be the same. It has to be relentless, it has to be intense, and it has to be game-like so the game is easy.”

Lewis said the Jaguars needed to respond mentally after their loss, and he credited the team with handling that challenge against New England. The focus now shifts to maintaining that response through the next practice week.

“Anytime that you have a loss like we did, you want to have a response and be mentally tough enough to go out there and handle business like we did,” Lewis said.

Trevor Lawrence adds to Jaguars history

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes and one interception in the victory. He has thrown seven touchdowns and two interceptions through three games this season.

The performance gave Lawrence his 13th career game with at least three touchdown passes, moving him past Mark Brunell for the most such games in Jacksonville Jaguars history. Lawrence also ranks second on the franchise’s all-time touchdown-passes list with 104.

Lawrence has thrown 25 touchdown passes in his last 10 games, tied for the most by a Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback in a 10-game span. Coen said Lawrence’s command of the system and preparation were evident against the New England Patriots.

“Trevor played really well yesterday, to be honest,” Coen said Monday. “I thought he did a nice job of taking the profits, being able to control it … I just thought he did a really nice job. He had very good command of the system this week, and the preparation was there.”

Albert Regis could return against Cincinnati

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie defensive tackle Albert Regis missed the victory with an elbow injury. Coen said Regis likely will be available when the Jacksonville Jaguars play at the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, pending his evaluation during the practice week.

“We’ll have to look at what it looks like in practice this week,” Coen said. “It was not something that should be out more than this past game. We were kind of being smart with him this week. He could have gone.”

The Jaguars have won 15 of 20 regular-season games under Coen and have lost consecutive games once during his tenure. Their next opportunity to build on the preparation emphasized by Coen and Lewis will come Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

FSB Take

The 35-6 victory gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a strong response after their loss, but Coen’s message centered on repeating the process rather than celebrating one result. Jacksonville leads the AFC South at 2-1, and the visit to the Cincinnati Bengals will test whether the team can maintain the preparation standards that produced its Week 3 victory.
