Florida National University women’s volleyball lost to Florida College 3-0 on Sept. 29 in Temple Terrace, Fla. Florida College won the sets 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18 in the Continental Athletic Conference match. The result left Florida National University at 0-2 in conference play and 3-9 overall, while Florida College stood at 12-5.

Florida College recorded 42 kills and assists, according to the source, and held a significant hitting advantage. Florida National University finished with a .065 team hitting percentage, compared with .185 for Florida College. The match was a rematch of the teams’ Sept. 18 meeting.

Florida College builds early lead

Florida College opened the first set with a 3-0 advantage before three consecutive attack errors brought Florida National University level. The Falcons regained control and moved ahead 18-9 after a kill by Abby Lemay. An unsuccessful attack by Lizano Joya ended the set at 25-17.

Florida College again established separation in the second set, taking a 21-13 lead after a block error by Carolina Goncalves. Florida National University recorded six kills in the set, while Florida College had 13 kills and hit .139. The Falcons closed the frame 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead.

Florida College recorded 15 kills in the third set and finished the sweep with a 25-18 victory. Florida National University made an 8-2 run late in the set, but Jazmyne Slay delivered the match-ending kill on a block error by Ariana Long.

Long leads Florida National University defense

Long led Florida National University with 13 digs, and Shady Mayer added 10. Lizano Joya and Diana Stetsko combined for 11 of the team’s 21 kills. Pelin Alci led Florida National University with 13 assists.

The teams also met Sept. 18, when Florida National University won the opening set behind back-to-back kills from Grace Leffler and Chriselle Ferdinand before Florida College won the next three sets. Florida National University could not duplicate that opening-set success in the rematch.

Next event

Florida National University’s next event is the Continental Athletic Conference Classic hosted by Hesston College. The event begins Oct. 8, 2026.

FSB Take

Florida College’s 13 kills in the second set and 15 in the third helped produce a straight-set win. Long and Mayer led Florida National University’s defensive effort with 13 and 10 digs, respectively, but the team’s .065 hitting percentage remained below Florida College’s .185 mark. Florida National University now turns to the Continental Athletic Conference Classic beginning Oct. 8.
