Cam Cannarella recorded three doubles and extended his on-base streak to 26 games as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp defeated the Nashville Sounds 10-8 Thursday at VyStar Ballpark.
Jacksonville produced a season-high 16 hits, with every player in its batting order recording at least one hit. The Jumbo Shrimp rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the lead for good.
Jared Serna opened the seventh with a double and scored on Cannarella’s third double of the game. After Brayden Taylor walked, Cannarella scored on a Graham Pauley single, and Taylor came home on Kemp Alderman’s go-ahead RBI single to give Jacksonville a 10-7 lead.
Nashville trimmed the deficit in the ninth when Akil Baddoo doubled and scored on Ethan Murray’s sacrifice fly. Stephen Jones secured the win with his sixth save by inducing a groundout from Ramon Rodriguez.
The Sounds took an early lead when Blake Burke hit a solo home run in the first inning. Jacksonville answered with four runs in the fifth, including Brendan Jones’ first Triple-A home run, while Deyvison De Los Santos, Matthew Etzel and Logan Driscoll also contributed during the inning.
Nashville erased Jacksonville’s 6-1 advantage with five runs in the sixth inning. Akil Baddoo delivered a two-run single, and Jeferson Quero followed with a three-run home run to tie the game at 6-6. Alderman’s RBI single gave Jacksonville a 7-6 lead in the bottom half before Nashville tied the game again in the seventh.
Cannarella reached base for the 26th consecutive game. The streak is tied for the sixth-longest in recorded Jacksonville baseball history dating back to 2005.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp entered the game at 65-62 overall and 23-30 in the International League, while the Nashville Sounds entered at 69-59 overall and 26-27. Jacksonville is the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and competes in the International League.
The series continues Friday at VyStar Ballpark at 12:05 p.m. Bradley Blalock is scheduled to start for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp opposite Nashville starter Brandon Sproat.
