Alex Anzalone, Rueben Bain Jr. and Chris Godwin Jr. made notable contributions during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Friday training camp practice. Anzalone created a loss with pressure and coverage work, Bain Jr. collapsed the pocket, and Godwin Jr. made back-to-back catches during the first 11-on-11 period.
Alex Anzalone creates pressure and takes away checkdowns
Anzalone caused a loss during the first team period after rushing from the left side and pushing running back Bucky Irving into Mayfield. During training camp, Anzalone has been assigned to cover running backs in the flat and across the middle of the field, taking away the checkdown option for Mayfield.
Anzalone also has displayed sideline-to-sideline speed, hip fluidity and acceleration while matching tight ends and running backs. “I have seen him roll with Bucky on one of the plays and he ran all the way across with him and matched stride-for-stride,” said Winfield on Anzalone. “He has been doing that the last couple days and seeing that out there makes me smile.”
Rueben Bain Jr. collapses the pocket
Rueben Bain Jr. reached the backfield during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ third practice of training camp and collapsed the pocket Friday. Bain has worked opposite outside linebacker Yaya Diaby on the defensive front.
Bain recorded 15.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks for Miami in 2025 and earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. His backfield pressure continued during Friday’s practice.
Chris Godwin Jr. remains a frequent target
Chris Godwin Jr. made back-to-back catches during the first 11-on-11 period. On one reception, he motioned before the snap, settled into a void in zone coverage and caught a pass from Mayfield along the right sideline.
Godwin later worked upfield off a jet sweep and remained a frequent target for Mayfield. His contested-catch physicality, short-area quickness and body control helped the offense move the chains during Zac Robinson’s install.
