The Miami Dolphins made four football roster moves Oct. 13, claiming wide receiver Jared Wayne off waivers from Houston and signing defensive lineman Jordan Jefferson to the practice squad. Miami also waived wide receiver Ryan Miller and released defensive lineman Mazi Smith from the practice squad.

Wayne has appeared in nine career games with four starts over three seasons with Houston, recording six receptions for 85 yards. He also started one postseason game with Houston and entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the team in 2023.

Jared Wayne joins Miami after Houston tenure

Wayne played 41 games with 23 starts at Pitt, recording 146 receptions for 2,308 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Miami Dolphins roster listing identifies him as a 6-foot-3, 210-pound wide receiver from Peterborough, Canada, with two years of experience. The listing also identifies Pitt as his college and his acquisition as a 2026 waiver claim from Houston.

Miami waived Miller after he joined the Dolphins via waivers Aug. 25, 2026. Miller has appeared in 30 career games with six starts over four seasons with Tampa Bay and Miami, producing 17 receptions for 254 yards and four touchdowns.

Ryan Miller leaves after four NFL seasons

Miller played in one postseason game with Tampa Bay and entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the team in 2023. At Furman, he played 53 games with 42 starts and recorded 151 receptions for 2,146 yards and 28 touchdowns. He earned All-America honors and was an All-Southern Conference selection in 2020 and 2021.

Jordan Jefferson added to practice squad

Jefferson has appeared in 10 career games over two seasons with Jacksonville, San Francisco and Cincinnati. He has recorded 12 tackles, 1.0 sack, one tackle for loss and one pass defensed.

Jacksonville selected Jefferson in the fourth round, 116th overall, of the 2024 NFL Draft. He played five collegiate seasons at West Virginia and LSU, appearing in 55 games with 23 starts and recording 90 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and eight passes defensed.

The Miami Dolphins roster listing identifies Jefferson as a 6-foot-3, 337-pound defensive lineman from Navarre, Florida, with two years of experience. It lists LSU as his college and his acquisition as a 2026 free-agent signing.

Mazi Smith released from practice squad

Smith joined the Miami Dolphins practice squad Sept. 1, 2026, and played in Miami’s Week 4 matchup at Minnesota. He has appeared in 43 career games with 20 starts over three seasons with Dallas and the New York Jets, recording 57 tackles and 2.0 sacks.

Smith played in one postseason game with Dallas and entered the NFL as the 27th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. At Michigan, he appeared in 35 games with 28 starts and recorded 88 tackles, a 0.5 sack, 6.0 tackles for loss, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He earned two All-Big Ten selections, in 2021 and 2022.

FSB Take

The Miami Dolphins changed both the wide receiver and defensive line groups with the four moves. Wayne replaces Miller on the personnel side, while Jefferson joins the practice squad after entering the NFL as a fourth-round pick and Smith departs after joining Miami’s practice squad in September.

The additions give Miami a wide receiver with nine career games and a postseason start, along with a defensive lineman who has appeared in 10 NFL games. The moves were announced Oct. 13, 2026.
