The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels lost 8-2 to the Clearwater Threshers on Saturday night at BayCare Ballpark, extending their losing streak against Clearwater to five games.
The five-game skid matches the longest of the season for the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, which has reached that mark four times. Fort Myers is listed at 67-60 overall and 30-32 in the relevant split, while Clearwater is 74-54 overall and 34-28.
Clearwater Builds an Early Lead
Philadelphia Phillies No. 2 prospect Aidan Miller led off the bottom of the first inning with a 109 mph double against Fort Myers starter Jason Reitz. Miller, playing in his first game since September 18, 2025, scored on Reece Moroney’s single, and a groundout with the bases loaded brought home Clearwater’s second run.
Reitz exited after 1.1 innings with runners on first and second. He was listed with an 0-3 record and had not pitched in an official game since July 24 because of a forearm strain, according to the source. Jackson Sleeper entered from the Fort Myers bullpen and recorded two infield popups to end the inning.
Fort Myers cut into the deficit in the third inning. Charlie Scholvin led off with a single, and Bryce Fowler followed with a two-out single to center to make the score 2-1. Fowler’s hit extended his hitting streak to six games, the longest active streak on the Fort Myers roster.
Clearwater answered with three runs against Sleeper in the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead. Jimmy Keenan and Hideki Prather opened the fourth inning with consecutive singles, and Keenan later scored on Charlie Scholvin’s sacrifice fly. The Threshers added a run against Callan Fang in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-2.
Threshers Add to the Lead
Fang allowed another run in the sixth inning and exited after 3.1 innings with six strikeouts. The total was his second-highest mark of the season.
Brian Strange entered with one out and runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cade Climie’s base hit allowed an inherited runner to score, giving Clearwater an 8-2 lead. Clearwater pitching faced the minimum from the fifth inning through the end of the game.
The 2026 season concludes Sunday, September 6, with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels’ season finale. First pitch is scheduled for noon, and coverage begins at 11:50 a.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
