The University of West Florida announced a partnership with Opendorse on Oct. 6, 2026, to expand Name, Image, and Likeness education, services and marketplace access across its athletic department. The partnership begins during the West Florida Argonauts’ first year of NCAA Division I competition and builds on Opendorse’s existing work with the NIL collective supporting Argonaut student-athletes.

Through the agreement, University of West Florida student-athletes will receive on-demand NIL education, expert-led webinars and premium video content covering contracts, marketing, taxes, personal finance and brand development. Opendorse also will provide virtual education sessions led by its team. A dedicated success manager will support athletic department staff from onboarding through daily operations.

Education and staff support

The University of West Florida athletic department and the NIL collective will use the same platform for student-athletes to build their personal brands and manage NIL activity. The arrangement extends Opendorse’s support beyond the collective and across the athletic department. It gives student-athletes access to education and services as the West Florida Argonauts enter NCAA Division I competition.

“Our commitment to student-athlete success extends well beyond the field of competition,” said Meghan Barter, UWF Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA. “Partnering with Opendorse provides our student-athletes with the resources, education and tools necessary to confidently navigate the evolving NIL landscape. This collaboration reflects our commitment to preparing UWF student-athletes for success both during their collegiate careers and throughout their lives.”

Marketplace connects Argonauts with community

The University of West Florida will launch a branded NIL Marketplace for fans, alumni and local businesses. The marketplace will provide a way for those groups to connect with West Florida Argonauts student-athletes for NIL opportunities. It will operate alongside the education and brand-development resources provided through the partnership.

“NIL provides our student-athletes with an opportunity to build something that extends beyond their performance on the field, their personal brand,” said Justin Bennett, UWF Assistant Athletic Director for Development. “Our partnership with Opendorse will help UWF student-athletes understand their unique value, develop their brands and connect with meaningful NIL opportunities, while gaining valuable skills and experiences that can serve them well beyond their collegiate careers.”

The West Florida Argonauts compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference as a full multisport member and in the United Athletic Conference as a football-playing member. The partnership applies across the University of West Florida athletic department rather than to a single team. It arrives as the Argonauts begin their first year of NCAA Division I competition.

Division I transition adds context

The University of West Florida has 15 varsity programs that earned 11 national championships and 141 conference titles at the Division II level. That record is the backdrop for the department’s expanded NIL structure as the West Florida Argonauts move into NCAA Division I competition. The new platform is intended to give student-athletes one place to build their brands and manage NIL activity.

“West Florida has built a winning program, and the move to Division I raises the stakes for every Argonaut,” said Blake Lawrence, Co-Founder & President, Collegiate Operations at Opendorse. “We have seen what this community can do for its athletes through our work with the collective. Now the athletic department is putting education and a branded marketplace behind that support, so UWF student-athletes start their Division I careers ready to grow their brands.”

Opendorse is a Name, Image, and Likeness technology, data and service provider for colleges, collectives, consumers and commercial partners. The company said more than 200,000 athlete influencers use its platform to build, promote and monetize their personal brands.

FSB Take

The University of West Florida is pairing its move to NCAA Division I with a department-wide NIL education and marketplace plan. The program covers practical areas such as contracts, taxes, personal finance, marketing and brand development, while the branded marketplace will connect fans, alumni and local businesses with West Florida Argonauts student-athletes. The shared platform gives the athletic department and NIL collective a common system as the Argonauts compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference and the United Athletic Conference.
