The Alberta Basketball Hall of Fame’s inaugural class includes former Florida State University women’s basketball player Adut Bulgak. Bulgak was inducted Aug. 29 alongside 11 female player inductees. The honor recognizes a career that included achievements at Florida State, in the WNBA and internationally.

Bulgak’s Florida State career

Bulgak played two seasons at Florida State from 2014-16 after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College. At Trinity Valley, she won the 2014 WBCA NJCAA Division I Player of the Year award and helped the program win an NJCAA national championship. Bulgak ranks 11th in Florida State program history with 19 career double-doubles and 12th with 88 career blocked shots. She recorded 43 double-figure scoring games, including eight 20-point performances, in 68 games for Florida State. The New York Liberty selected her with the 16th pick in the first round of the 2016 WNBA Draft, making her the first Albertan selected in the first round.

Professional and international basketball

Bulgak played two WNBA seasons and appeared in a combined 12 games for the New York Liberty and Chicago Sky. She won gold with Team Alberta at the 2009 Canada Summer Games and later helped Team Canada win a silver medal at the 2015 FISU Games in Gwangju, South Korea. After her WNBA career, Bulgak played internationally in Israel, France, Mexico, Russia, Spain and South Korea.

Since 2023, Bulgak has played for the South Sudan senior women’s team. She helped South Sudan qualify for its first 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where the team placed third after a victory over Senegal. Bulgak was born in Kenya as a refugee of South Sudan and lived there for six years before her family immigrated to Edmonton, Canada.

Bulgak currently plays for the Jacksonville Waves in the UPSHOT League. The league is a four-team professional women’s basketball league that completed its inaugural season in 2026.
