Florida National University women’s soccer newcomer Luiza Ferreira was named the Continental Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Ferreira scored in two consecutive matches, including a game-winning goal in the 88th minute against Fisher College. She followed that performance with a goal in Florida National University’s 3-0 victory against Florida College on Oct. 10.
Ferreira’s late goal against Fisher College came in a Continental Athletic Conference match. Her goal against Florida College marked her second consecutive match with a goal and helped extend her recent scoring run. The award recognizes Ferreira’s impact during her first season with Florida National University women’s soccer.
Ferreira earns conference defensive honor
The Continental Athletic Conference cited Ferreira’s performance in its announcement. “Ferreira, the defensive honoree, posted a goal for the second straight match in the Conquistadors’ 3-0 victory against Florida College last Saturday,” said the CAC’s press release Tuesday.
Ferreira is the second weekly honoree from the Conquistador women’s soccer program in 2026, according to Florida National University. Her recognition follows a two-match stretch in which she scored against conference opponent Fisher College and Florida College.
Florida National University remains unbeaten in conference play
Florida National University is 2-0-0 against conference opponents and 3-1 in its last four matches. The Conquistadors have received timely scoring from Ferreira in their past two matches. Ferreira’s award gives the program an individual conference honor during that stretch.

Florida National University will play at Webber International University on Oct. 17. The women’s soccer match is scheduled for noon in Babson Park, Florida.
