Sarah Greiner and Lily Borders earned ASUN weekly awards Monday after helping the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles defeat High Point 2-0 on Sept. 12. Greiner was named the ASUN Player of the Week, while Borders received the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor for week five.
Greiner scored on a late penalty kick for her third goal of the season. Her 19 shots and 10 shots on goal led the ASUN at the time of the announcement. She became the second Florida Gulf Coast player to earn ASUN Player of the Week honors that season.
Borders scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the match and helped Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer secure the shutout. She played 626 of the 630 minutes Florida Gulf Coast had been on the field that season. The award was the first ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career.
“I am really proud of these guys” Florida Gulf Coast women’s soccer head coach Jim Blankenship said. “They were both tremendous again on Saturday, on the defensive side as well as pushing up and contributing to the attack.”
