Hailey Santiago scored three second-half goals to lead Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer to a 3-0 victory over Jacksonville on Thursday, Sept. 3, at FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.

After a scoreless first half, Santiago opened the scoring 1:16 into the second half on an assist from Lola Hathorne. Santiago added her second goal in the 87th minute before completing the hat trick with 24 seconds remaining. Florida Atlantic improved to 2-2-2, while Jacksonville fell to 1-1-2.

Santiago reaches multiple milestones

The hat trick was Santiago’s second in a week and moved her season total to seven goals, which leads the American. She became the fifth player in program history to record two matches with at least three goals and was the quickest player to reach that mark. Santiago also became the first Florida Atlantic player since 2004 with multiple hat tricks in one season.

Hathorne recorded her team-leading third assist of the season. Santiago finished with seven shots and four shots on goal, while Hathorne played 87 minutes and Santiago played 84 minutes.

Florida Atlantic records shutout

Ashley Small earned the clean sheet, turning away nine Jacksonville shot attempts and recording two saves. Small, Cicely-Ann Spencer-Wickham and Sydney Neira each played all 90 minutes. The result gave Florida Atlantic its 3-0 home victory over Jacksonville.

Florida Atlantic will play at Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. The match will be televised on ESPN+.
