FIU men’s soccer forward Santi Possu earned American Conference Honorable Mention recognition for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Oct. 5. The graduate student received the honor after scoring in road victories at FGCU on Sept. 29 and South Florida on Oct. 2.
Possu scored the game-tying goal in FIU’s 4-2 victory over FGCU in Fort Myers. He then scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute at South Florida, helping FIU earn its first American Conference victory of the season.
Possu continues scoring run
The two-goal week extended Possu’s scoring streak to five consecutive matches. He has scored six goals during that stretch and leads FIU with eight goals and 16 points.
Possu’s eight goals are tied for the American Conference lead, while his four conference goals lead the league. He ranks seventh nationally in total goals with eight and is tied for fifth in goals per game at 0.89.
Fourth weekly conference honor
The recognition is Possu’s fourth weekly conference award of the season. He was named American Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31 before earning Honorable Mention recognition on Sept. 21 and Sept. 28.
