Shane Gierke was ranked No. 8 on D1Baseball’s list of Top Head Coaching Hires, placing the Stetson baseball head coach among the offseason hires recognized by the college baseball publication. D1Baseball highlighted 10 head coaching hires from across the country in its annual coaching carousel wrap. Gierke is preparing Stetson baseball for the 2027 season after returning to DeLand during the summer of 2026.
Gierke returned to Stetson University Athletics after spending the 2026 season as an assistant coach at UCF. He previously spent four seasons on the Hatters’ coaching staff, including time as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. That experience preceded his move into the top coaching position in the Atlantic Sun Conference program.
Gierke returns as Stetson’s head coach
Stetson University Athletics officially named Gierke the 24th head coach in Stetson baseball history in July 2026. During his previous tenure with the program, he helped guide the Hatters to consecutive ASUN Championship titles and NCAA Regional appearances in 2024 and 2025. Those accomplishments came before his 2026 season at UCF.
Gierke has since assembled his inaugural coaching staff as Stetson baseball prepares for the 2027 season. His return gives the program a head coach with prior experience in DeLand and a background that includes associate head coaching and recruiting responsibilities. The D1Baseball ranking adds recognition to the beginning of his tenure as Stetson’s head coach.
FSB Take
Gierke’s No. 8 ranking gives Stetson baseball an early offseason storyline as the program prepares for 2027. His previous work with the Hatters, including the consecutive ASUN Championship titles and NCAA Regional appearances in 2024 and 2025, is the clearest verified context for the recognition. The next step is the continued development of his inaugural coaching staff in DeLand.
