The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed second-year wide receiver and kick returner Jha’Quan Jackson on Wednesday and waived wide receiver Dennis Houston with an injury designation. The move adds Jackson to the 91-man training camp roster before Tampa Bay’s preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday night at EverBank Stadium.

Jackson was most recently in training camp with the Houston Texans, who waived him Monday. He played in two preseason games for Houston, recording two receptions for nine yards, one kickoff return for 27 yards and one punt return for eight yards.

Jackson brings NFL return experience

The Tennessee Titans selected Jackson in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Tulane. He appeared in 12 games as a rookie and primarily worked as a kick returner, returning 28 punts for 215 yards and 16 kickoffs for 412 yards.

Jackson also caught one pass for eight yards and ran once for a loss of five yards during his rookie season. The Titans waived him at the end of the preseason last year, and he later spent one week on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. Jackson was with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL from January through March of the 2026 offseason.

Dennis Houston waived with injury designation

Houston sustained a groin injury in the Buccaneers’ second preseason game against Kansas City on Aug. 22. He played in each of Tampa Bay’s first two preseason contests and caught two passes for 23 yards.

The roster move comes before a preseason finale in which Tampa Bay is not expected to play starters. The Buccaneers may also rest key regulars and players dealing with minor injuries, including Chris Godwin Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan, Tez Johnson, Kameron Johnson and rookie Ted Hurst III.

Jackson could join a group of available receivers that includes David Sills V, Dean Patterson IV, Eric Rivers Jr. and Garrett Greene. His addition gives Tampa Bay another player with experience at wide receiver and in the return game for the Jacksonville matchup.

FSB Take

Jackson’s most established NFL experience has come as a returner. His rookie season with Tennessee included 28 punt returns and 16 kickoff returns, while his two recent preseason games with Houston provided limited receiving and return production.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have Jackson available as they evaluate their receiving group against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With several players potentially resting and Houston removed from the roster with an injury designation, Jackson adds another option at receiver and on returns for the preseason finale.
