Finlay Prain scored for Rollins College men’s soccer, but Embry-Riddle (FL) held on for a 2-1 victory Sept. 9 at Cahall-Sandspur Field in Winter Park, Fla. The loss dropped Rollins to 2-1-1 on the season.
Embry-Riddle (FL) took a 1-0 lead before halftime when Elliot Mills scored on a breakaway. Jonas Banouas added a goal in the 47th minute to extend the lead to 2-0 after lightning caused an approximately 90-minute weather delay.
Prain brings Rollins within one
Rollins applied pressure throughout the match, and Prain had several opportunities before scoring. He finished a delivery from Sebastian Alvarez in the bottom-right corner to cut the deficit to 2-1. The goal was listed as Prain’s fourth of the season.
Rollins recorded nine shots on goal, compared with four for Embry-Riddle (FL). Prain had an opportunity denied by the Embry-Riddle (FL) goalkeeper before Cory Edwards sent the rebound over the crossbar. Rollins continued to create chances but could not find an equalizer.
Splunge sent off late
The match featured 11 cards and 31 fouls. Jaden Splunge received a second yellow card in the 83rd minute, forcing Rollins to play the closing minutes with 10 men.
Rollins continued to push forward while playing a man down and found several late opportunities. Embry-Riddle (FL) held on to secure the 2-1 victory.
Rollins is scheduled to open Sunshine State Conference play at Tampa on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
