Nova Southeastern University Athletics women’s volleyball went 1-3 at the Hampton Inn Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The tournament included the Sharks’ first loss of the season, leaving Nova Southeastern with a 5-3 record. All four matches were played at De Simone Arena.
Nova Southeastern defeats Hillsdale
Nova Southeastern opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Hillsdale HC by set scores of 25-16, 24-26, 25-23 and 25-17. The win moved the Sharks to 5-0. Nova Southeastern pulled away late in the third set after Hillsdale took a 23-22 lead, then controlled the fourth set from the opening point.
Erika Spankus recorded kills on the final two points of the first set. Caiden Largent led the Sharks with 13 kills, five total blocks, two service aces and seven digs, while Abbie Roth finished with 40 assists, eight kills and five service aces. Nova Southeastern collected 12 service aces, including five from Roth, and Taylor Teaman led the team with 12 digs.
Wis.-Parkside hands Sharks first loss
Wis.-Parkside UWP swept Nova Southeastern 3-0 by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-23. The result dropped the Sharks to 5-1 and marked their first loss and first sweep of the season. Nova Southeastern hit .196 as a team, while Wis.-Parkside hit .356 with 49 kills and 12 errors.
Spankus had 12 kills, three service aces and a .280 hitting percentage against the Rangers. Largent added six kills, 13 digs and one total block. Emily Zaper recorded the match-point kill for Wis.-Parkside in the third set.
Jamestown wins extended fourth set
Jamestown UJ defeated Nova Southeastern 3-1 by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-21 and 31-29. The loss moved the Sharks to 5-2 after Nova Southeastern pushed the fourth set beyond 25 points. The teams traded points late before Jamestown scored the final three points to win the match.
Largent recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs, along with three total blocks. Spankus finished with 18 kills, three service aces, three total blocks and five digs, while Roth contributed 47 assists, nine digs, four kills, two service aces and two blocks. Eleven Nova Southeastern players saw action, including Amalee Doyle and Cami Sekanina in their 2026 debuts.
Natalya Bergant recorded two kills in the third set and another in the fourth. Hadley Dantzler joined Largent for a block during the extended fourth set. Nova Southeastern also received two service aces from Roth during the third set.
Purdue Northwest closes tournament with win
Purdue Northwest Pur-NW defeated Nova Southeastern 3-1 by scores of 19-25, 25-19, 25-21 and 25-14. Nova Southeastern won the opening set before Purdue Northwest took the final three. The result left the Sharks with a 5-3 record.
Nova Southeastern hit .136 with 23 errors on 110 attacks and recorded eight team blocks. Spankus posted 15 kills and three service aces, while Roth had 26 assists, 11 digs and three service aces. Dana Gibbons hit .400 on five attacks.
Nova Southeastern has three matches scheduled
Nova Southeastern is scheduled to play Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m. and Fort Valley State at 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at the de Hoernle Sports Center in Boca Raton, Florida, on the campus of Lynn University. The matches are part of the Sharks’ return to the Sunshine State. Nova Southeastern is scheduled to play UIndy at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 inside Rubin Arena in West Palm Beach, Florida, on the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic University.
