The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp defeated the Norfolk Tides 8-1 on Sept. 6 at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia, as Brayden Taylor and Logan Driscoll hit home runs. The victory gave Jacksonville a series split in Norfolk. The Jumbo Shrimp improved to 69-67 overall and 27-35 in International League play.
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Break Through in Fifth Inning
The game remained scoreless through the first four innings before the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp scored three times in the fifth. Johnny Olmstead singled and advanced to third on a two-base pickoff error, then scored when Cam Cannarella delivered an RBI single after Juan Matheus walked. Matthew Etzel followed with a two-run single against Norfolk starter Trey Gibson to give Jacksonville a 3-0 lead.
Kemp Alderman led off the sixth inning before Taylor hit a two-run home run that extended the advantage to 5-0. Taylor went 2-for-5 in the game. Norfolk scored its only run in the bottom of the inning when Jose Barrero walked, advanced on a wild pitch and stole third before scoring on a Payton Eeles RBI ground out.
Jacksonville Adds Three Runs Late
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp added two runs in the seventh inning. Jonathon Long and Etzel drew one-out walks and advanced on a wild pitch before Alderman delivered a two-run single after a line out to left. The hit extended Jacksonville’s lead to 7-1.
Driscoll hit a leadoff home run in the eighth inning to cap the scoring. The Norfolk Tides fell to 52-83 overall and 25-36 in International League play. The win helped Jacksonville earn a split of the series.
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Return Home Tuesday
After Monday’s off day, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp will return to VyStar Ballpark for a Tuesday 5:05 p.m. doubleheader against the Gwinnett Stripers. The doubleheader opens Jacksonville’s final homestand of the season. Coverage begins at 4:50 p.m. on MLB.tv, Bally Live, ESPN 690AM and www.ESPN690.com.
The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and compete in the International League. The organization was identified as the 2025 International League and Triple-A National Champion.
