Ty Horn retired all six batters he faced in his professional debut, but the Daytona Tortugas lost 11-0 to the Tampa Tarpons on Aug. 22, 2026, at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla.

The game was scoreless through five innings before the Tampa Tarpons scored six runs in the sixth and five more in the eighth. The loss gave Tampa a 3-2 lead in the six-game series and a 6-5 advantage in the season series.

Horn Delivers Perfect Professional Debut

Horn, a right-hander, needed 18 pitches, including 11 strikes, to complete two perfect innings. He retired Dax Kilby, Yostin Pena, Paul Gutierrez-Contreras II, Bear Harrison, Anthony Potestio and Luke Pettitte in order.

Justin Henschel followed Horn and continued Daytona’s early pitching performance. Henschel struck out the side in the third inning and worked around a walk in the fourth, while Daytona pitching did not allow a hit through the first 4.1 innings and held Tampa scoreless through five.

Tampa Breaks Open Scoreless Game

The Tampa Tarpons broke through in the sixth inning after Luis Escudero and Kilby opened the frame with walks. Pena then hit a three-run home run, and Brando Mayea added a two-run single later in the inning before an error brought home Tampa’s sixth run.

Tampa added five runs in the eighth inning. Kilby walked in one run, a balk brought home another and Pena hit his second three-run home run of the afternoon to finish with six RBIs.

Morillo Records All Three Daytona Hits

Jirvin Morillo recorded all three of the Daytona Tortugas’ hits, going 3-for-3 with a walk. He recorded his first three-hit game of the season and extended his on-base streak to six games.

Morillo singled in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings, but Daytona could not score. The shutout was Daytona’s fifth of the season and its first since Aug. 7 at St. Lucie.

Daytona fell to 54-65 overall and 33-20 in the second half. The Daytona Tortugas will finish their six-game series against the Tampa Tarpons on Sunday, Aug. 23, at George M. Steinbrenner Field, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET.
