The Daytona Tortugas split a doubleheader with the St. Lucie Mets on Aug. 27 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, winning Game 1, 8-2, before St. Lucie took Game 2, 3-1.

Daytona snapped a three-game losing streak with the opener and moved to 55-67 overall and 34-22 in the second half. St. Lucie took a 2-1 lead in the six-game series, while the Tortugas moved to 14-10 in August, 36-27 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark and 5-7 in doubleheader games this season.

Brink Delivers in Game 1

Jake Brink pitched 5.1 innings of relief in the opener, allowing two hits and one run while walking one and striking out four. The right-hander retired 16 of the 18 batters he faced, stranded all three inherited runners and earned his second victory of the season.

St. Lucie took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Ryan Tayman's solo home run. Daytona answered with a four-run third inning, when Drew Davies tied the game with his sixth home run of the season before Steele Hall scored on a Mulivai Levu single. Adolfo Sanchez followed with a two-run double that brought home Levu and Arnaldo Lantigua.

The Tortugas added two runs in the fourth inning. Rafhlmil Torres doubled, stole third and scored on a wild pitch, and Hall doubled home Sherman Johnson.

Aiden Robbins hit a solo home run for St. Lucie in the fifth, but Daytona answered when Jirvin Morillo doubled and scored on Torres' single. The Tortugas added their final run in the sixth when Ichiro Cano scored on a fielder's choice and throwing error.

Torres recorded two hits and scored twice, giving him his 28th multi-hit game and 22nd two-hit game of the season. Sanchez posted his third multi-RBI game of the season, while Morillo extended his on-base streak to nine games and his hitting streak to six games.

St. Lucie Takes Game 2

Daytona scored first in Game 2 when Levu doubled and came home on Sanchez's RBI double. Dusty Revis worked around a walk in the first inning and a bases-loaded situation in the second before St. Lucie broke through in the third.

The Mets produced four consecutive hits in the third inning. Jeremy Rodriguez tied the game with an RBI single, Branny De Oleo followed with a run-scoring single, and Wyatt Vincent added another RBI single to give St. Lucie a 3-1 lead.

The three-run inning proved to be the difference. Revis retired St. Lucie in order in the fourth before Logan Tanner pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit, issuing no walks and striking out four. Tanner retired nine of the 10 batters he faced and set a career high with three innings of relief.

Daytona could not solve the St. Lucie bullpen after Sanchez' first-inning double. Cano doubled with two outs in the sixth, and Morillo doubled in the seventh, but neither runner scored as St. Lucie secured the victory.

Cano extended his on-base streak to 15 games. The Tortugas are 14-10 in August and 36-27 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
