Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Rally Behind Andrew Pintar and Gage Miller Home Runs in 6-3 Win Over Gwinnett Stripers

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp defeated the Gwinnett Stripers 6-3 Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Gwinnett Field in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The International League game was shortened by persistent light rain. Andrew Pintar and Gage Miller each hit a three-run home run for Jacksonville.

Gwinnett took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Carlos Santana drew a leadoff walk, and DaShawn Keirsey Jr. reached first on a fielder’s choice before stealing second and advancing to third on a base hit by Jose Azocar. Jair Camargo followed with an RBI single.

Jacksonville moved in front in the third inning against Herick Hernandez. Cam Cannarella drew a leadoff walk, and Jonathon Long followed with a single. After two outs, Pintar hit a three-run home run to center to give the Jumbo Shrimp the lead.

The Jumbo Shrimp added three runs in the fifth inning. Long walked to begin the inning, and Pintar singled after a lineout and a strikeout. Miller followed with a three-run home run to left, extending Jacksonville’s lead to 6-1; he also walked twice.

The Stripers answered in the bottom of the fifth. Patrick Clohisy singled with one out and moved to second on a pickoff error by Patrick Monteverde, who earned the win and was listed with a 3-2 record. Kyle Farmer hit an RBI single, Rowdy Tellez singled, and Santana hit a sacrifice fly to cut Jacksonville’s lead to 6-3.

The game was called following the top of the sixth inning because of the continuing rain. Jacksonville’s record was listed as 55-53 overall and 13-21 in league play, while Gwinnett was listed at 56-53 overall and 18-17 in league play. Hernandez was listed with a 1-1 record after taking the loss.

The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Gwinnett Stripers are scheduled to meet again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN 690 AM and ESPN690.com. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, compete in the International League and play their home games at VyStar Ballpark.
