The Miami Marlins defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-4 at Coors Field on Wednesday night, giving Miami six victories in its last seven games. The Marlins have gone 49-43 since Colorado swept them in an early June series.
Agustin Ramirez drove in three runs for the Miami Marlins. He delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning before hitting a two-run home run in the eighth. Javier Sanoja went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, while Jakob Marsee, Liam Hicks and Joey Weimer each added an RBI single.
Heriberto Hernandez added a sacrifice fly, and Mickey Moniak hit a ninth-inning solo home run. Marsee also stole his 11th base of the season. Hernandez entered the series finale with 20 home runs.
Ryan Weathers made his second start after returning from the injured list and worked four innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out two on 80 pitches, including 48 strikes.
Lake Bachar, Ronny Henriquez, Calvin Faucher and George Soriano combined for five scoreless innings after Weathers departed. The Miami Marlins bullpen allowed three hits during that stretch, including Moniak’s home run.
The Wednesday starting lineup included seven rookies and had an average age of 24 years, 281 days. The Marlins also had as many as 16 players on the injured list at one point during the season. Nine games remained in the 2025 season at the time of the story.
“I love that we hung in there,” Miami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said. “It wasn’t a great start in the first couple of innings.”
McCullough said the team’s at-bats improved as the game progressed. “Kind of a slow start,” McCullough said. “But as that game went along, we strung together some high-quality at-bats.”
“We’re a group of guys that are trying [to establish ourselves] at the Major League level for the first time,” Ramirez said. “We’re getting used to that, and we’re going to come back next year stronger.”
“This is a hard game,” Weathers said. “… It’s an extremely hard game. And for [the rookies] to stay in, day-in and day-out — guys hitting 21 homers [Ramirez] and stealing 10 bags [Jakob Marsee, who stole his 11th on Wednesday], it’s really good. It’s exciting.”
