The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed rookie wide receiver Matthew Henry on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, and placed rookie defensive lineman Deshawn McKnight on injured reserve. The move gives Tampa Bay another option at wide receiver while several players remain unavailable because of injuries.
Henry completed his collegiate career at Western Kentucky after previous stops at Western Illinois and Livingstone College. He started all 13 games for Western Kentucky in 2025, recording 55 receptions for 888 yards and six touchdowns. He was named to the All-Conference USA second team and is listed at 6 feet, 1 inch and 180 pounds.
Henry totaled 185 receptions for 2,939 yards and 20 touchdowns in 40 collegiate games. He went undrafted in April and participated in rookie minicamps with the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him to his first NFL roster.
Deshawn McKnight Moves to Injured Reserve
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed McKnight on injured reserve to make room for Henry on the 91-man camp roster. McKnight suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night and left the game in the second half. He had made his preseason debut in that game.
McKnight joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent from Arizona in May. The team has been practicing without wide receivers Emeka Egbuka, Jalen McMillan and Tez Johnson because of injuries. David Sills V and rookie Ted Hurst III started at receiver against the Kansas City Chiefs, while Chris Godwin Jr. was held out.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one preseason game remaining, scheduled for Friday in Jacksonville.
