The Eckerd College women’s basketball team was picked to finish third in the Sunshine State Conference preseason coaches’ poll. Eckerd received 30 points and one first-place vote, tying Nova Southeastern for third. The poll follows a 2025-26 season in which Eckerd won the conference regular-season title.
Eckerd finished 17-3 in Sunshine State Conference play last season and recorded two wins over ranked opponents. The team also reached the Sweet 16 at the end of the season. Those results provide the immediate context for Eckerd’s position in the preseason projection.
Terrell returns after productive season
Senior guard Kailyn Terrell returns to the Eckerd College women’s basketball team after appearing in 32 games last season. She averaged 6.4 points per game and made 44 3-pointers. Terrell previously earned Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year honors at Nova Southeastern.
Sophomore guard Savi Borowicz also returns after her freshman season with Eckerd. Borowicz appeared in 30 games, averaged 4.6 points per game and made 29 3-pointers. Her return gives Eckerd another backcourt player with experience from last season.
Honsinger begins 21st season
Eckerd enters the season under head coach Paul Honsinger. He is beginning his 21st season as the program’s head coach. Honsinger will lead a team coming off a conference regular-season championship and a Sweet 16 appearance.
FSB Take
Eckerd’s third-place projection reflects the combination of last season’s conference title and the competition represented in the preseason poll. The team received one first-place vote despite tying Nova Southeastern for third with 30 points. Terrell and Borowicz are the returning guards identified by the program as Eckerd begins the season under Honsinger.
