Armand Burris was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week after helping Florida A&M Football rally past Alabama State, 28-27, on Oct. 9 in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced the honor Monday, Oct. 12, from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. The award covers the period of Oct. 12-18 and is Burris’ first weekly honor of the season.

Burris delivers career performance

Burris, a sophomore wide receiver from Lincolnshire, Illinois, recorded career highs with four receptions, 216 receiving yards and two touchdowns against Alabama State. Florida A&M trailed 27-14 in the fourth quarter before the receiver helped spark the comeback.

Freshman quarterback Armond Parker connected with Burris for an 88-yard touchdown reception that cut into Alabama State’s lead. On Florida A&M’s following drive, Burris caught an 89-yard touchdown pass, and the Rattlers converted a two-point attempt to complete the scoring.

The victory gave Florida A&M its first Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the season and the first SWAC win of the Quinn Gray Era. Burris’ production also secured his first weekly conference award of the season.

Conference weekly honors

Burris is listed at 6-foot-1 and 194 pounds and attended Stevenson High School. His career performance in Montgomery earned him the conference’s top weekly offensive honor.

Southern’s Herman Brister III was named Defensive Player of the Week. Grambling State’s Jacobe Robinson earned Newcomer of the Week, while Alcorn State’s Omarion Blakes received Special Teams Player of the Week.

FSB Take

Burris’ two long touchdown receptions directly shaped Florida A&M’s one-point comeback over Alabama State. The performance came in the program’s first SWAC victory of the season and the first conference win of the Quinn Gray Era, making the award a significant individual recognition tied to an important team result.
