Rollins College women’s soccer rallied from an early deficit to defeat Palm Beach Atlantic 4-1 on Sept. 19 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The victory improved Rollins to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in SSC play, while Palm Beach Atlantic dropped to 3-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in SSC play.
Palm Beach Atlantic took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute when Kelsi Bennett assisted Kendall Popp. Rollins answered in the 42nd minute, when Carolina Ameglio scored her first goal of the season. The goal followed a sequence in which Victoria Pou Varona sent a cross into the box, Harmoni Thomas headed the ball toward goal and the saved attempt fell to Ameglio.
Rollins College women’s soccer takes control after halftime
Rollins moved in front after halftime when Gabby Boyd won the ball following a throw-in, took two touches and scored from approximately 25 yards. The goal gave Rollins a 2-1 lead. Four minutes later, Khunnita Chamrouen intercepted a Palm Beach Atlantic pass and scored to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Victoria Pou Varona completed the scoring in the 78th minute with a header assisted by Bella Robinson. The goal gave Pou Varona her first brace of the season. Rollins scored four goals after Palm Beach Atlantic opened the match with the lead.
Rollins College women’s soccer controls statistics
Rollins put nine of its 17 shots on target and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. The game statistics listed Palm Beach Atlantic with five shots on goal. Lauren Mehos made four saves for Rollins.
