Rollins College sailing finished second in the women’s competition and ninth in the open competition at the SAISA Open and Women’s Top 9 in Charleston, South Carolina. The women’s team totaled 148 points, trailing only host College of Charleston. Annie Samis and Jane McKenzie helped lead Rollins by finishing inside the top 10 in all 14 women’s A Division races.
Rollins scored 53 points in the women’s A Division and 95 points in the B Division. Fourteen races were completed in each division, with competitors racing 420s and FJs. Both competitions used combined scoring across the A and B divisions.
Annie Samis and Jane McKenzie produce 11 top-five finishes
Samis, the skipper, and McKenzie, the crew, recorded 11 top-five finishes in the women’s A Division. The Rollins pairing opened the regatta with a runner-up finish before winning races four and seven. Samis and McKenzie also recorded four consecutive runner-up finishes in races nine through 12.
Adelaide Matzky and Mollie Wood represented Rollins in the women’s B Division. The duo recorded 10 top-10 finishes, including seven top-five results. Matzky and Wood won races nine and 10 and finished second in race 13.
Rollins College sailing finishes ninth in open competition
Rollins totaled 413 points in the open competition, with 211 points from the A Division and 202 points from the B Division. Caleb Kinnear and Alexander Goldsmith represented Rollins in the open A Division and recorded the team’s best result with an 11th-place finish in race nine. Jack Adderley and Sam Frushone represented Rollins in the open B Division and finished eighth in race 14.
Rollins College sailing set for two SAISA events
Rollins is scheduled to compete Sept. 26-27 at the SAISA Match Race Championship and the JAX Open. The College of Charleston in South Carolina will host the SAISA Match Race Championship, while Jacksonville University will host the JAX Open. Both events are scheduled for the same weekend.
