The Jacksonville Jaguars will play their first road game of the 2026 regular season Sunday against the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High. Jacksonville enters Week 2 at 1-0 and leads the AFC South, while Denver is 0-1 and tied for third in the AFC West. The game is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
“So much of this week is truly about us,” Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said. He stressed communication and preparation as the Jaguars prepare to face a Denver team that won the AFC West with a 14-3 record last season. “We have to be aware of their good players and their good schemes and their good coaching,” Coen said. “Also, going into this atmosphere, the communication both verbally and visually, guys being on the screws.”
Jacksonville Jaguars bring recent success against Denver
The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Denver Broncos 34-20 in Week 16 of the 2025 regular season. Jacksonville was the only team to beat Denver during the Broncos’ 14-3 regular season. Coen said the Jaguars can use their previous experience in Denver to understand the atmosphere and preparation required.
“I think it helps our players know the atmosphere, know what they’re going into. The schemes are probably going to be very similar for us as well,” Coen said. He also pointed to the value of having experience with the trip, the altitude and the atmosphere. “I’m sure they’re looking at that game just as much as we are,” Coen said.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said last season’s result will not determine Sunday’s matchup. “I don’t really put too much stock in it,” Lawrence said. “It’s two totally different teams. Even if a lot of the players are the same, every year is so different and every game you have to show up with your best for three hours on Sunday.”
The Jaguars opened the season with a 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns at EverBank Stadium. The Denver Broncos lost their regular-season opener 31-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City on Monday. Coen said he expects Denver to respond.
“We know how they are going to respond – there is no question,” Coen said. “They are a well-coached, talented team that we have obviously a lot of film on from last year, and then obviously playing them later on helps with some of that.” Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jourdan Lewis also said the Broncos will be motivated after the loss.
“They want some revenge. Coming off a loss like they did last week, we know we are going to get their best ball. We just have to go out there and execute, play to our standards and understand we are playing a pissed off team, which is good because that challenges our standards,” Lewis said.
Brian Thomas Jr. listed as limited
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. was listed as limited on the team’s first Wednesday injury report after sustaining a shoulder injury against Cleveland. He returned to that game and caught three passes for 40 yards. “I’ll be ready to go Sunday,” Thomas said.
Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. was listed as limited with a hip injury, while wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was limited with a thumb injury. Right tackle Cole Van Lanen was limited with a knee injury, and linebacker Foye Oluokun was limited with a wrist injury. Allen, Meyers and Van Lanen were also listed as limited on the previous Wednesday and played against the Cleveland Browns.
Jacksonville Jaguars face extended road stretch
The Jacksonville Jaguars will return to EverBank Stadium in Week 3 to face the New England Patriots. The team will then spend Weeks 4-6 outside Jacksonville before its Week 7 bye. The upcoming schedule adds to the importance of the Jaguars’ preparation for their trip to Denver.
“We want to play every game in Duval, but it’s like Coach Liam says: ‘Anyone, anytime, anywhere,'” Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange said.
