The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Cleveland Browns 34-10 in a 2026 NFL Week 1 game Sunday, Sept. 13, at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. Jacksonville created two takeaways, scored four touchdown passes through Trevor Lawrence and recorded five sacks of Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Jaguars correspondent John Shipley examined five plays that shaped the victory.
Foyesade Oluokun set the tone
Foyesade Oluokun intercepted Deshaun Watson on the fifth play from scrimmage. Oluokun returned the interception 22 yards, setting up an eight-play, 59-yard drive that ended with Trevor Lawrence’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Parker Washington. The touchdown gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a 7-0 lead with 8:11 remaining in the first quarter.
“That was the statement right there,” defensive end Josh Hines-Allen said. “This is when the game is going to turn, that fast. We kind of continued to do that.” Oluokun added, “Catch the ones they throw you and you’ll have a hell of a year, so it was nice.” Brenton Strange called Washington’s reception something he sees in practice, while Lawrence described it as “a pretty sweet catch.”
Josh Cameron delivered a milestone touchdown
Josh Cameron, a sixth-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, caught his first NFL touchdown with 1:42 remaining in the first quarter. Lawrence’s pass to Cameron gave the Jacksonville Jaguars a 14-0 lead. The touchdown also marked Lawrence’s 100th career touchdown pass.
“It’s definitely a play that we kind of practiced all week, and kind of whenever I saw the safety, kind of cheated over … it’s probably going to come my way,” Cameron said. “Usually in practice, he cheated the other way, but I’m like, ‘OK, we lock in.’ I just kind of did my job, and then I turned as soon as the ball kind of came at me. It was there.” Lawrence said Cameron could keep the ball from his first touchdown. “I got to go get 200 now, I’ll keep that one,” Lawrence said.
Ventrell Miller forced another turnover
Ventrell Miller forced Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver K.C. Concepcion to fumble after a five-yard reception in the second quarter. Josh Hines-Allen recovered the fumble at the Browns 44. Lawrence then passed 14 yards to Brenton Strange for a 24-0 lead.
“He’s going to lead the league in punchouts,” Hines-Allen said of Miller. “The effort he played with today, we can expect that every week and he expects it every week for himself, which is great to be part of.”
Lawrence connected with Jakobi Meyers
The Jacksonville Jaguars scored again after receiving the third-quarter kickoff. The drive ended when Lawrence threw downfield to wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who caught the pass in the back of the end zone. It was Lawrence’s fourth passing touchdown of the game.
“That’s something we always talk about in the offseason especially – that second play when the scramble starts,” Lawrence said. “The best teams at it are the guys that can react as fast as possible and continue to work and get open while the play gets extended.”
Jacksonville’s pass rush finished the job
The Jacksonville Jaguars registered five sacks on Deshaun Watson. Travon Walker and Josh Hines-Allen each recorded 1.5 sacks, while Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs each recorded one sack. The Jaguars pressured Watson after building their early lead and forcing the Cleveland Browns to pass.
“It feels great,” Travon Walker said. “It really is just a great feeling to just be healthy and be able to use my hands and things of that nature, and obviously get back into my groove.”
