Brandon Compton hit a grand slam, but the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp lost 6-5 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 10 innings Saturday night at PNC Field. Yanquiel Fernandez scored the winning run for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Fernandez began the inning at second as the zombie runner and advanced to third on a groundout. He scored two batters later on the wild pitch, giving the RailRiders the win.
Compton Gives Jacksonville an Early Lead
Jacksonville opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Logan Driscoll led off with a base hit, and Gage Miller walked before a sacrifice bunt and another walk loaded the bases. Compton then hit a grand slam to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 4-0.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre began its comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning. After two outs, Tyler Hardman hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The RailRiders moved within one run in the fifth inning. Jasson Dominguez was hit by a pitch with one out, and J.C. Escarra followed with a two-run home run to make the score 4-3.
RailRiders Rally to Force Extra Innings
Jacksonville extended its lead in the top of the seventh inning. Matthew Etzel doubled, stole third and scored on Braden Taylor’s sacrifice fly, giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 5-3 advantage.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kenedy Corona drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, and Connor McGinnis followed with a sacrifice fly that brought home the tying run.
The RailRiders entered the game with a 78-68 overall record and a 41-31 mark in International League play. Jacksonville entered at 73-74 overall and 31-42 in league play before Fernandez’s run ended the game in the 10th.
Regular-Season Finale Ahead
Jacksonville and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will conclude the 2026 regular season Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Luis Palacios is scheduled to start for the Jumbo Shrimp with a 3-2 record and a 2.89 ERA.
Elmer Rodriguez is scheduled to start for the RailRiders with an 8-4 record and a 2.45 ERA. Coverage begins at 1:20 p.m. on ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.

Compton’s grand slam gave Jacksonville an early four-run advantage, and the Jumbo Shrimp rebuilt a two-run lead in the seventh inning. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered with two runs in the eighth before winning on Fernandez’s run in the 10th. Jacksonville, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, now heads into the regular-season finale with Palacios scheduled to face Rodriguez.
