Montverde Academy I drew 1-1 with Kissimmee FC on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Dan Newlin Injury Attorney Stadium. Hassan Akhonya scored the equalizer after Kissimmee took an early lead. Goalkeeper Joaquim Miranda also made a penalty save. The result moved Montverde Academy I to 3-1-1, according to the school’s Oct. 11 recap.
Miranda’s save keeps Montverde within reach
Kissimmee FC opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Miranda stopped a penalty kick 10 minutes later to keep the deficit at one goal. Akhonya then scored in the 33rd minute to bring Montverde level. Neither side found a winning goal before the final whistle.
The penalty save was a significant moment because Montverde still needed only one goal to draw level. Akhonya supplied that goal before halftime. The final score shows the value of recovering after an early setback without allowing the game to get away. Montverde can carry that lesson into its next road test.
Jacksonville trip is next on Oct. 17
Montverde Academy I is scheduled to visit Jax United FC at Fort Family Park on Saturday, Oct. 17. The school’s recap lists kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. That match offers a chance to build on the recovery against Kissimmee. A steadier start would give Montverde more room to manage the game instead of chasing an early deficit.
FSB Take
The encouraging part of this draw is how Montverde responded when the match started badly. A goalkeeper’s save can change the direction of a game, but a team still needs to turn that opening into a result. Montverde did so through Akhonya’s equalizer. I would look for the Eagles to pair that resilience with a sharper opening stretch when they travel to Jacksonville.
