Edward Waters University Women’s Volleyball split its two matches on the second and final day of the SIAC Crossover on Sept. 19, 2026, losing to Miles College before defeating Lane College in five sets. The matches were played at the HPER Gym on the campus of Albany State University in Albany, Georgia. Edward Waters University defeated Lane College 3-2 by set scores of 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 24-26 and 15-8.
The victory improved Edward Waters University to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in SIAC play. The team opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Miles College, falling 20-25, 16-25 and 12-25. Edward Waters University then secured its first SIAC victory of the season against Lane College.
Edward Waters University Falls to Miles College
Miles College pulled away for a 25-20 victory in the opening set before taking the second set 25-16. Miles College completed the sweep with a 25-12 win in the third set.
Heylianis Aquino led Edward Waters University with six kills and one service ace. Norah Laurore and Kalia Williams each recorded four kills, while Jewel Helmuth added three kills, one solo block and one block assist. Miles College finished with 32 kills and a .229 team hitting percentage, while Edward Waters University recorded 25 kills.
Naraiya Thompson led Edward Waters University with 11 assists and five digs against Miles College. Shaniah Jones added nine assists and five digs, while Ayanna Blocker led the team with nine digs.
Edward Waters University Outlasts Lane College
Edward Waters University took the first two sets against Lane College, winning 25-21 and 25-22. Lane College answered with a 25-23 victory in the third set and a 26-24 win in the fourth, forcing a deciding set.
Edward Waters University controlled the fifth set and finished with a 15-8 victory. The team committed three attack errors in the final set, hit .200 and held Lane College to a .059 hitting percentage in the deciding frame.
Genesis Melenciano led Edward Waters University with 12 kills. Norah Laurore added 11 kills while hitting .250, and Jewel Helmuth recorded 10 kills with a .261 hitting percentage. Brooklyn Jones contributed nine kills and 12 digs.
Autumn James recorded seven kills, hit .227, had three service aces and led Edward Waters University with 15 digs. Shaniah Jones added 14 digs, while Brooklyn Jones had 12 and Naraiya Thompson and Ayanna Blocker each recorded 11. Edward Waters University and Lane College finished with 77 digs apiece.

Naraiya Thompson led Edward Waters University with 24 assists against Lane College, while Shaniah Jones added 19 assists. Edward Waters University finished with 51 assists on 51 kills.
Edward Waters University recorded 13 service aces in the five-set victory. Autumn James, Naraiya Thompson and Dimaliz Figueroa each recorded three aces.
Zakiyyah Abdul led the blocking effort with two solo blocks and seven block assists. Norah Laurore added six block assists, and Edward Waters University finished with three solo blocks and 18 block assists.

Edward Waters University will host Savannah State University in its SIAC home opener at 6 p.m. Sept. 22, 2026. The match will be played inside the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
The home opener follows Edward Waters University’s split against Miles College and Lane College at the SIAC Crossover. The victory over Lane College moved the team to 1-3 in SIAC play.
