Bennett Hostetler hit his eighth home run of the season and tied his career high with five RBIs as the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp defeated the Norfolk Tides 8-4 Wednesday night at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia.
Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second inning when Jonathon Long walked, Brandon Compton singled and Juan Matheus walked to load the bases. Hostetler followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Long. In the fourth, Compton reached on a walk, Matheus singled home Compton and Hostetler launched a three-run homer to left against Norfolk starter Juaron Watts-Brown.
Cam Cannarella capped the five-run inning with a solo home run to left-center, his second homer of the season. Compton added his first Triple-A home run with one out in the fifth inning. It was his 34th home run of the season across three minor league levels, extending Jacksonville’s lead to 7-0.
Jacksonville pitching carries no-hitter into eighth inning
Jacksonville carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning and held Norfolk to four hits. Starter Luis Palacios pitched four perfect innings and struck out three batters, while Zach Brzykcy, Zach Pop, Christian MacLeod and Holt Jones combined with Palacios to produce 7.2 no-hit innings.
Jacksonville added its final run in the eighth inning when Hostetler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Brandon Butterworth ended the no-hit bid with a two-out, two-strike solo home run against Jones. Norfolk scored three runs in the ninth on Jeremiah Jackson’s three-run homer, but Jones finished the game by inducing a flyout and a popout.
Pop earned the win to improve to 3-4, while Watts-Brown took the loss and fell to 1-2. The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp compete in the International League and are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Jacksonville won the 2025 International League and Triple-A National Championships and plays its home games at VyStar Ballpark.
