Saint Leo University women’s volleyball split two matches Sept. 11 at the Lions/Tritons Invitational in St. Petersburg, Florida. Saint Leo University swept Franklin Pierce 3-0 before Henderson State won a four-set match. Reagan Lyerla produced 21 kills across the two matches, including 11 kills and 12 digs in the sweep.
The invitational was co-hosted by Saint Leo University and Eckerd. The split moved Saint Leo University to 3-6 on the season, with one nonconference match remaining on the schedule.
Saint Leo sweeps Franklin Pierce
Saint Leo University defeated Franklin Pierce 25-17, 25-14 and 26-24. Lyerla recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs, and she tied for the team lead with two service aces.
Alexa Gandolfo and Mina Kostic each had eight kills. Kostic added six blocks, including one solo block, while Gandolfo finished with three blocks. Kostic hit .727 after recording eight kills on 11 swings, and Gina Stavile had five kills on nine swings for a .556 hitting percentage.
Jansen Warbritton recorded 28 assists, three kills, four digs and two service aces. Mia Moser added 11 digs and one service ace. Saint Leo University hit a season-best .330, while Franklin Pierce hit .121.
Henderson State wins four-set match
Henderson State defeated Saint Leo University 25-21, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-22. Shelby Toney led Saint Leo University with 11 kills, six digs and one service ace, while Kostic and Lyerla each had 10 kills.
Lyerla added four service aces and seven digs against Henderson State. Kostic recorded three blocks, including two solo blocks, while Giada Solorzano posted a career-high 17 digs. Warbritton recorded another double-double with 28 assists and 15 digs, along with three kills.
Saint Leo University’s home opener is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Georgia College and State University. The match is scheduled to be played inside Marion Bowman Activities Center on the Saint Leo University campus.
