Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen emphasized physical, aggressive football Friday as his team prepared to open the 2026 regular season against the Cleveland Browns. Jacksonville will host Cleveland at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at EverBank Field. The Jaguars enter the opener with a 13-4 record after winning the 2025 AFC South title, while the Browns enter at 5-12.
Coen, entering his second season as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach, said the team handled the transition from training camp to its first regular-season practice week properly. He said the regular-season schedule required more detail and focus than training camp or organized team activities.
“I thought the guys went through the process of the work week the right way,” Coen said. “I thought they did a nice job of working through the work week and kind of getting back into that flow. It is a little bit of a different flow than training camp, and obviously OTAs and all that. There is just a lot more detail that goes into each day, a lot more true focus.”
Coen expects an aggressive Jacksonville Jaguars performance
Coen said the Jaguars do not need a perfect performance but must play with aggression and physicality. Jacksonville opened the 2025 season with a 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Stadium.
“You have to know going into it that it may not always be perfect, but it does have to be violent, and it does have to be physical,” Coen said. “I went back and watched the Carolina game again, and by no means was it perfect, but you can make up for a lot when you play the game violently and you play the game as the aggressor.”
Jacksonville Jaguars injury report
Cole Van Lanen was listed without status on the final injury report and was expected to be available, although Coen called him a game-time decision. Van Lanen practiced on a limited basis all three days of the week after spending much of 2026 training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Walker Little was expected to start at right tackle if Van Lanen does not play.
Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was listed without status after a thumb injury. Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. was listed as questionable with a hip injury. Left tackle Anton Harrison missed practice with a foot injury and was listed without game status.
