The Jacksonville Jaguars will open the 2026 regular season against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at 1 p.m. at EverBank Field, with head coach Liam Coen expecting the team to play with a physical, aggressive edge.
Coen is entering his second season as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach. The Jaguars finished 13-4 and won the AFC South in 2025, while the Browns finished 5-12.
Coen said Jacksonville handled the transition from training camp to a regular-season practice week properly. “I thought the guys went through the process of the work week the right way,” he said.
He said the regular-season routine demands more detail and focus than training camp or offseason workouts.
“I thought they did a nice job of working through the work week and kind of getting back into that flow,” Coen said. “It’s a little bit of a different flow than training camp, and obviously OTAs and all that. There’s just a lot more detail that goes into each day, a lot more true focus.”
Coen wants Jacksonville to play with an edge
Coen does not expect a perfect performance, but he does expect the Jacksonville Jaguars to play with the physicality and aggression that define the team’s approach. Jacksonville opened the 2025 season with a 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Stadium in the first game of the Coen era.
“You have to know going into it that it may not always be perfect, but it does have to be violent, and it does have to be physical,” Coen said.
Coen said he revisited the Carolina game as an example of how an aggressive approach can help a team overcome mistakes.
“I went back and watched the Carolina game again, and by no means was it perfect, but you can make up for a lot when you play the game violently and you play the game as the aggressor,” Coen said.
Jacksonville Jaguars injury report
Cole Van Lanen was listed without status on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ final injury report of the week, which means he is expected to be available Sunday. Van Lanen practiced on a limited basis all three days after spending much of 2026 training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Coen said Van Lanen, who sustained a Week 18 knee injury last season, remains a game-time decision. Walker Little is expected to start at right tackle if Van Lanen does not play.
Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was listed without status on Friday’s injury report. Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. was listed as questionable with a hip injury, while left tackle Anton Harrison missed practice with a foot injury and was listed without game status Friday.
