LaDonna Trantham recorded a match-high 17 kills to lead Florida A&M to a 3-2 victory over Connecticut on Sept. 4, 2026, in nonconference women’s volleyball at Swisher Gymnasium in Jacksonville. The match was part of the Dolphin Volleyball Classic Presented By Hampton Inn East Regency, hosted by Jacksonville University. Florida A&M improved to 2-2, while Connecticut fell to 1-4.
Florida A&M won 10-25, 25-21, 26-24, 24-26 and 16-14 in a match that lasted two hours and 39 minutes. The team hit .464 in the third set and .450 in the fifth set. The deciding set featured six lead changes and 12 ties before Sydney Borowy’s attack error ended the match.
Makenzie Taylor posted 38 assists and 12 digs for Florida A&M. Kelly Kelsick served six consecutive points during the second set, including two service aces, while Sydney Whitfield closed the third set with a kill for a 26-24 victory. Iyonnie Sanford added 11 kills, Sydney Humes recorded a team-high 13 digs and Tamia Coleman finished with five assisted blocks, which led all players.
Farah Farooq contributed 12 kills for Florida A&M. Connecticut received 16 kills from Borowy, 14 from Courtney Grayson and 13 from Helena Einarsdottir, who also recorded 13 digs and two service aces. Isabella Sohl finished with 55 assists, while Hazuna Akishige had three service aces and 14 digs.
Florida A&M was scheduled to face Coastal Carolina at 5 p.m. Saturday at Swisher Gymnasium as the tournament continued.
