Ana Martinez was named Polk State Athletics’ Eagle of the Month for October 2026 after a six-match stretch for Polk State Volleyball. The Polk State College libero averaged 3.7 digs per set and 0.35 service aces per set during the month, while recording 18 assists. The award was announced Nov. 6 and selected by the Polk State Athletics Eagle of the Month Committee.

Martinez reached double digits in digs four times during October. She recorded 20 digs against Daytona State College on Oct. 7, her highest total in Citrus Conference play. Martinez also finished the month with seven aces, including three against Santa Fe College on Oct. 17.

Martinez adds to season recognition

Martinez was named the FCSAA Defensive Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season. She also earned second-team All-Citrus Conference recognition. Martinez ranked third in the FCSAA during the season with an average of 3.52 digs per set and recorded a season-high 28 digs against North Central Texas College on Sept. 12.

“Ana has been a tremendous addition to our program, and her work ethic, coachability, and commitment to improving have stood out from day one,” said Polk State head coach Jessica Beal. “She brings consistency and determination to the court and takes pride in doing whatever it takes to help the team succeed. I’m proud to see her recognized as Eagle of the Month.”

Martinez is a native of Mexico City and transferred to Polk State College from College of Southern Maryland. Randy Lee, Polk State’s director of athletics, said Martinez made a significant impact through her play and leadership while also showing a commitment to academics and the College community. Polk State College President Anastasios Kamoutsas also congratulated Martinez on the recognition.

“Ana exemplifies what it means to be a Polk State Eagle,” said Randy Lee, Polk State Director of Athletics. “She has made a significant impact on our volleyball program through her play and leadership, while also demonstrating a commitment to her academics and the College community. We’re proud of her accomplishments and pleased to see her named Eagle of the Month.”

“Congratulations to Ana on being named Polk State’s Eagle of the Month for October,” said Polk State President Anastasios Kamoutsas. “We are proud to recognize her accomplishments and the example she sets for her fellow Eagles.”

FSB Take

Martinez’s award reflects contributions in multiple areas of Polk State Volleyball’s October performance. Her digging, serving and assist totals provide the statistical basis for the honor, while her FCSAA and Citrus Conference recognition places the month within a broader season of individual achievement. The committee selection also adds a Polk State College honor to Martinez’s competitive accolades.
